Pattern Welded Viking Spear taught by Emilliano Carrillo at NESM
In this video Emilliano Carrillo of Sun and Stars forge teaches a class on how to assemble a Viking era spear using pattern welded steel.
Students start by assembling billets of damascus steel, that is later cut up into pieces and welded back together and forged into the preform of a spear head.
The forms are then forged to shape, then a socket is welded on.
Spears are ground, heat treated, and attached to spear shafts.
Emiliano Carrillo is a bladesmith out of New Hampshire, and he specializes in recreating viking era, and Japanese blades.
Emiliano's Website: www.emilianocarrillo.com/
The class is hosted at The New England School of Metal work, in Auburn Maine. The school has classes on blacksmithing and bladesmithing with tons of different courses for beginner and advanced students.

Happy to see you putting in a distal taper..in the handle, a semi rarity. Also,...you forged out the tip, and the bevels (quite easily) rather than chopping, and grinding them out with a grinder as most seem to do these days. Refreshing! Outstanding job.
